enlightenment philosopher resume assignment
Background scenario: The King of your country is placing an ad in the classifieds looking for a politically minded individual to help him transition the country from an absolute monarchy to some form of limited government. You are interested in the position and have decided to submit your resume.
Task: Each pair will create a resume for an Enlightenment philosopher. After all resumes have been submitted, students will view the resumes and “hire” one in small groups.
1. Fill in information for the four categories that must be covered in your resume:
2. Complete the resume (1 page double spaced cover letter, 1 page for the rest of the resume). Feel free to be creative with the layout of your resume. There are templates in Microsoft Word for creating resumes that you can use for the project.
3. Use your class time wisely. Save and print out a copy when you are finished.
4. Bring 6 copies of your resume to class on Monday. You will meet in small groups to discuss the candidates and “hire” a monarch to rule your country.

1. Fill in information for the four categories that must be covered in your resume:
- Cover Letter- explaining the reason for submitting your resume. Includes details describing how you will help the monarch retain power while transitioning the country into a constitutional monarchy or some other form of limited government.
- Objective Statement - what is the purpose of your resume? What do you hope to accomplish by getting this job of political advisor?
- Experience - what specific experience do you have that would qualify you for the position? List specific events from your life that would help explain why you are qualified for the position. Make sure to include positions that you held, titles you were given, and explanations of the actions that you took during particular events.
- Accomplishments - what have you accomplished during your life that would make you look like an ideal candidate for the position? List specific accomplishments or awards that would make you appear to be the best candidate.
- References - list the names and titles of two people that could talk about your qualities as a ruler. These two people should be able to give specific information about your experience, accomplishments, and abilities.
- Photo – you would not normally include a photo on your resume, however, for this project, you need to include a small photo of your philosopher in the header
