Chapter 15 Notes and Assignments
Day 1: Social Reform
Day 2: Social Reform Poster
Directions: With a partner create a poster using materials provided to persuade someone to attend your event. The event options to choose from are below. On the poster you must include the following
Option 1: A revival meeting during the Second Great Awakening.
Option 2: Invitation to live in a newly created utopian society.
Option 3: Join the Temperance Movement.
Option 4: Apply to enroll in Oberlin College in Ohio.
- Clear title of what the event is.
- A description of what will happen at the event.
- At least 2 reason why someone should attend the event.
- At least one hand drawn image.
- Use color and be creative to get the reader’s attention.

Day 3: The ABOLITIONIST Movement
Days 4-7: Abolitionist Research Project
Directions: In a group of two or three you will be creating a powerpoint presentation about one of the Abolitionist leaders from the list provided. The number of slides and information that needs to be included on each slide is provided in the table below.

1- Title Page: Include group names, date, period, class, and teacher. There also needs to be a picture related to your topic. 2- The Abolitionist Movement: Include a definition of the Abolitionist Movement, what were the goals of this movement, and 2 other points of your choice about the movement. 3- Person’s name, picture, birthplace, and time period. 4- Personal background information, and major life events 5- Involvement: What was this person’s involvement in the abolition movement? Did they belong to a certain organization, 6- Major Accomplishments and how they relate to the Abolitionist Movement 7- Obstacle or challenges the individual faced how they overcame those obstacles. 8- Legacy: How is the abolitionist relevant to today? What are the last impacts of their accomplishments? 9- Include at least two quotes and provide an explanation about how each quotes relates to abolition. 10- Fun Facts: Include at least three facts about the person. These could talents or other interests the person had outside of the abolitionist movement. 11- Bibliography: List the websites used to gather your information for the presentation. |
